Chagas disease or American trypanosomiasis is a disease caused by a protozoan parasite called Trypanosoma cruzi.
MORE INFORMATION
Chagas disease can be transmitted in five different ways: by a vector (through insect faeces), vertical or congenital (from mother to her child during pregnancy), blood transfusions and organ transplants, oral or an accidental laboratory exposure.
Today the disease can be treated. Currently there are two medications against Chagas, both in pill form.
Since there is no vaccine against Chagas disease, the most important preventive measure is what you are already doing: getting information.
